Call4Backup Trustees Pass Resolution to Dissolve Charity Amid Financial Challenges

/ July 31, 2024

Call4Backup, a dedicated charity committed to supporting the wellbeing of everyone working or volunteering in our police services announces with regret that its trustees have passed a resolution to dissolve the organization due to ongoing financial vulnerabilities.

In a meeting held today (31/07/2024), the trustees of Call4Backup thoroughly reviewed the charity’s financial status and future commitments. After careful consideration, the decision was made to dissolve the charity in light of insurmountable financial challenges.

“This decision was not made lightly,” said Rob Webber, Founder and Chair of Trustees of Call4Backup. “We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering support and dedication of our volunteers, whose efforts have been the backbone of our mission. The impact they have made in our community is immeasurable, and their contributions will always be remembered.”

Call4Backup will begin the process of winding down its operations in the coming weeks. The charity will provide additional information and guidance on the next steps to all stakeholders. All peer support will stop with immediate effect as we look to focus on closure of the charity. Those fundraising in events for the Charity will be asked to close their fundraising pages and consider alternative fundraising in the secured place for another Police Charities UK member as the place is paid for and we would want to pass on our support to the continued great work of amazing charities of all sizes in Police Charities UK consortium.

Since the charity began in 2015, there have been many changes that have improved wellbeing support for those working and volunteering in UK Police Forces. We have seen the Blue Light Campaign, Police Dependants Trust become Police Care UK and offer more support to mental wellbeing, Blue Light Together, Oscar Kilo – The National Police Wellbeing Service and hopefully soon, a 24/7/365 Crisis Support line to allow those in the police to speak to a counsellor immediately over the phone.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported Call4Backup,” Rob Webber continued. “Your commitment has made a significant difference in the mental wellbeing of those in the police and has seen serving and retired officers and staff return to full duties when they were unable to get support anywhere else, and we are incredibly thankful for the positive change you have helped us achieve. When I started this mission 9 ½ years ago, my aim was just to help 1 person, the charity has massively surpassed that, providing vital confidential assistance to those who reached out or had been turned away from elsewhere. Thank you again.”

All remaining items of stock in the C4B Shop will now be sold at massively reduced price and any remaining funds after dissolving will go to Flint House Rehabilitation Centre.
