After almost 5 months since its inception Call4Backup has reached its first real milestone. Today we officially became charity registered in England and Wales with the Charities Commission. This is such a big step and now opens the doorway to so much more that Call4Backup can do for all those colleagues on the front line of policing.
Becoming registered as a charity has now allowed us to move forwards with the plan of opening a bank account for the charity to keep secure the funds donated to us from hardworking supporters. We have received over £3800 in donations since the organisation began which has come through sponsorship, donations and the sales of goods through our shop but, as with every organisation, there are overheads and we are always seeking out new ways to raise funds.
We are now looking into Grants and Lottery Funding to help fund the early stages of the full launch and further training for our support agents. We will also need further funds to put towards insurance policies and indemnities to protect those same support agents for every eventuality.
There are lots of hurdles still to cross before we can say were up and running fully but at least by becoming registered as a charity we have been able to lower the height of those hurdles, making them more manageable.
